Royal Wedding

Taking a deep breath, he dropped to one knee. Her back was turned; she was checking the chicken. He cleared his throat and she turned. He started his well-rehearsed speech, but before he could get a couple sentences out, she interrupted him. “Can I say yes now?” A huge grin spread across his face. He jumped up, and gave her a huge hug. There were tears, there was laugher. He was going to spend the rest of his life with her. He couldn’t wait to tell all of his friends and family. But first, he had to call and tell the Queen.

Who knew that once Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle, that it would take the world by storm. I saw couples cry tears of happiness. “I’m getting married the same day as the Royal Wedding!” I saw couples cry tears of sadness. “I’m getting married the same day as the Royal Wedding?!?!” However, I had no idea how the Royal Wedding would affect me…

My husband, a long time employee of the Greensboro Grasshoppers, came home from work one night. He mentioned to me that the marketing department was talking about the Royal Wedding and ways to celebrate, but they weren’t quite sure how. As a wedding photographer, my husband felt that I can provide some insight from the wedding industry perspective. Excitedly, I agreed and we scheduled a time to talk.

I spoke with Mary, the Promotions Coordinator and we talked about some ideas. They wanted to involve as many wedding vendors as possible, so I happily passed on a few names of my favorite “friend-ors.”

The day of the event had arrived. The first 1000 guests received a bobblehead of the Royal Couple and an exit sample of Twinings Tea. But the main attraction was yet to come. Wearing a cape and crown, they exited their London Taxi (provided by Proximity Hotel) behind home plate to a screaming crowd. Spaz, the Greensboro Grasshoppers lovable emcee, escorted them to home plate for a first pitch opportunity. Afterwards, they were shown to their reserved seats behind home plate, where Guilford the Mascot made a surprise visit. To top it all off, they were interviewed by WFMY News 2 about their experience.

While the world watched Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot, we watched Bryan, Meghan and their son Jordan be treated like Royalty.
